Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation requiring high school students to pass a financial literacy course before graduating.
The bill – known as the Dorothy L. Hukill Financial Literacy Act – passed the Florida House unanimously by a vote count of 117-0 and did the same in the state Senate with a 39-0 vote.
“Financial literacy is an important life skill for a student to have,” said DeSantis in announcing the bill’s signing.
“Ensuring our students have the skills to manage their finances and perhaps one day own a business will pay dividends for our state,” he added.
The education requirement will go into effect for the 2023-2024 school year and will provide students instruction on managing debt, handling bank accounts, and navigating credit scores and taxes.

DeSantis’ Focus On Education
Governor DeSantis has been making education the cornerstone of his administration, from providing common sense real-life skill requirements to students to opening up schools to in-person instruction following the pandemic before any other state dared do so.

The potential 2024 presidential candidate also introduced the Stop WOKE Act allowing parents to file lawsuits against schools teaching critical race theory (CRT).

DeSantis is poised to sign the Stop WOKE Act after it was passed by the Florida legislature earlier this month.
“In Florida, we are taking a stand against the state-sanctioned racism that is critical race theory,” DeSantis said upon voicing support for the bill in December.
“We won’t allow Florida tax dollars to be spent teaching kids to hate our country or to hate each other.”

DeSantis On Fire
Aside from eliminating CRT from Florida schools, DeSantis also raised the ire of liberals by passing a bill they’ve incorrectly dubbed the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill.
The legislation restricts teachers and school districts from discussing gender identity and topics surrounding sexuality in the classroom from kindergarten through the third grade.
“If you are out protesting this bill, you are by definition putting yourself in favor of injecting sexual instruction to 5, 6, and 7 year-old kids. I think most people think that’s wrong. I think parents, especially think that’s wrong.” – @GovRonDeSantis pic.twitter.com/OC284S35PO

DeSantis is expected to sign the bill soon. He obliterated critics at a press conference Tuesday.
“Understand, if you are out protesting this bill you are by definition putting yourself in favor of injecting sexual instruction to 5-, 6- and 7-year-old kids,” he said. “I think most people think that’s wrong. I think parents especially think that’s wrong.”
By allowing men to compete in women’s sports, the NCAA is destroying opportunities for women, making a mockery of its championships, and perpetuating a fraud.

DeSantis also issued a proclamation this week declaring female collegiate swimmer Emma Weyant the “rightful winner” of the NCAA championship 500-yard freestyle event over transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.
The declaration blasts the NCAA for allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports.
“By allowing men to compete in women’s sports, the NCAA is destroying opportunities for women,” he said.
